Dorsett Hotel Gold Coast Review

This review provides everything you need to know about a stay at the Dorsett Hotel on the Gold Coast.

The Queensland Travel Guide acknowledges the Yugambeh people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Dorestt is situated. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continued spiritual and cultural connections to Country. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

The Dorsett Hotel is four star luxury hotel on the Gold Coast in the Star Casino precinct. The hotel has 313 rooms in a central location close to all the glitz and glamour of the Gold Coast, including its stunning beaches.

We recently spent the night at the Dorsett Hotel while down the Gold Coast to see Pink Flamingo’s Zirque La La.  In this review, we share our thoughts on the property so that you can decide if it’s the right hotel for your next trip to the Gold Coast.

We were paying guests at the hotel – so you can be rest assured our review is completely unbiased.

DORSETT HOTEL GOLD COAST REVIEW

Below, we cover all you need to know about the Dorsett Hotel – including location, accommodation options, facilities and dining options.

Location

Located in Broadbeach, in a central location on the Gold Coast, the Dorsett is in the ideal position for anyone visiting the Star Casino or any other attractions on the Gold Coast.  As mentioned above, we stayed at the hotel as we had tickets to the Pink Flamingo, which is only a 5 minute walk away.

The hotel is within walking distance of everything!  The beach, shops, entertainment, restaurants, public transport and more.

The Dorsett is just 500m from the beach, so it is perfect for those wanting to spend some time in the ocean, as well as being just steps away from a huge range of restaurants and cafes.

The hotel is also just a 10 minute walk from the popular Pacific Far shopping centre, the largest shopping mall on the Gold Coast.  In addition to shops galore, Pacific Fair has cinemas, restaurants and other dining options.

You’re also just a short walk from the Broadbeach South tram station.  From here, you can easily get to other attractions on the Gold Coast or even further afield into Brisbane.

And, of course, the hotel is located within the Star Casino precinct, which has bars, cafes, restaurants and a theatre.

Accommodation Options

The Dorsett Hotels features 313 almost identical rooms with inclusions like flat screen TVs, huge ensuite bathrooms, and free wifi.

The rooms are a great size and feel very spacious for a couple.  You have the option of a king bed or a twin room, which features two double beds – ideal for families or groups of friends.  It’s also possible to book interconnecting rooms.

We paid a little extra for a balcony – but we shouldn’t have bothered.  The balcony was tiny and narrow, only fitting in two small chairs.  But it was the view that really let it down – just a view of the construction site of the hotel next door.

The bathroom was the real highlight for us.  Firstly, it was enormous, but what really impressed us was the rain shower.  My partner is over 6 feet and often struggles to stand completely under the shower – but not at the Dorsett; he had plenty of room.

The room also featured a coffee pod machine, kettle, tea, wine glasses and USB outlets so no need to bring a charger.

Dining Options

While the Dorsett doesn’t have its own restaurant per se, there are several dining options, which we cover below.

Isoletto Pool Club

When the sun is shining, Isoletto Pool Club is certainly the place to be seen.  On level 6, this poolside venue serves up a range of drinks and canapes, all while offering gorgeous views across the Gold Coast skyline.

Whether you sit in the restaurant or poolside, you can enjoy a range of snacks from seafood to sushi or something more substantial such as a burger, fish and chips or a salad.  There is also a kid’s menu.

You can even order drinks straight to your cabana.

Isoletto Pool Club is open daily from 10 am.

Jin Cafe & Bar

Located on the ground floor, just behind the reception area, is the Jin Cafe and Bar.  It is a small, cozy space without any outside view.

The cafe and bar are open Tuesdays through Saturdays for breakfast (6.30 am to 12 pm), snacks and drinks (2 pm to 10 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays).

Jin Cafe and Bar is ideal for your morning coffee and freshly baked croissant.  While later in the day, you can enjoy a cocktail paired with a charcuterie board.  A range of takeaway items, such as sandwiches and bagels, are also available.

Executive Lounge

If you upgrade your stay by checking into one of the hotel’s executive rooms, you can access the exclusive Executive Lounge.

While we didn’t take the upgrade, I’m told that you’ll enjoy a deluxe buffet breakfast in the Executive Lounge with hot and continental options and a view as you look out over the Gold Coast from Level 19.

Then, later in the day, you can return for a complimentary glass of bubbles and canapés and soak up the panoramic views of the sun setting over Broadbeach.

While the Executive Lounge is open 24 hours a day, breakfast is served on weekdays from 6.30 am to 9.30 am and on the weekends from 7 am to 10 am.  The evening canape hour is daily from 5 pm to 6.30 pm.

Room Service

If you feel like dining in your hotel room – then you’re in luck, as the hotel offers the ability to order food and have it delivered from a range of the Star Casino’s restaurants.  Simply scan the QR code and order straight from your phone.

Facilities

There are a few facilities at the Dorsett Hotel to make your stay more comfortable.

Pool

As mentioned above, the place to be at the Dorsett is level 6, where you’ll find the stunning resort style pool with an impressive 12m long viewing wall overlooking Broadbeach.

The pool is a great size, with plenty of space, so you can easily find your own private part of the pool to relax in.  I was pleasantly surprised to find the pool slightly heated so it can be enjoyed year round.  There is also a large spa area, the same temperature as the rest of the pool.

Around the pool are a number of comfortable cabanas, chairs and ‘wet lounges’ built into the pool itself, although not nearly enough seating considering the size of the hotel.  Still, we found a place to leave our belongings and spent most of our time in the water.

Towels are available on the pool level, so there is no need to bring your own or remove towels from your room.

The pool is open daily from 6 am to 9 pm.

Azure Spa and Fitness

Azure Spa and Fitness is ideal for those looking for some pampering while away.

The day spa features six treatment rooms, including a couple’s space and an exclusive outdoor cabana.  Treatments on offer include a range of massages, hot stone treatments, youth-boosting facials and skin-smoothing scrubs, all of which feature high-end skincare products.

If you’re looking to continue your fitness regime while away, you’ll be pleased to find a state of the art fitness centre here.  The gym features a range of equipment where you can run, lift, stretch and ride.

Azure Spa and Fitness is open weekdays from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 7 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm.

Star Casino Access

An absolute bonus of staying within the Star Casino precedent is that from the Dorsett, you have direct access to the Star Casino – no need to even walk outside the hotel.  Simply head to level 3, and a walkway leads directly into the casino.

This gives you easy access to the Star’s drinking and dining options, ranging from high-end Japanese to home-style Italian, a seafood buffet and classy Cantonese at the hotel’s newest restaurant, Uncle Su.

Parking

The Dorsett Hotel doesn’t have any parking; however, you can park at the Star Casino at a discounted rate.

On arrival, drive your car to just outside the hotel and check in, where you’ll be given directions on where exactly to park.  Then, once you park, take your ticket back to the reception, where your ticket will be validated for the special rate of $20.

Who is the Dorsett Hotel for?

The Dorsett Hotel is perfect for those looking for a luxurious hotel in a central location in Broadbeach.  Whether you’re down the Gold Coast for a special occasion or staying for a long weekend – from the Dorsett, you have easy access to restaurants, shops, entertainment, transport and the beach.

With the stunning pool on level 6, you could easily spend hours each day relaxing poolside.  Then, come evening, you’ve got the Star Casino on your doorstep, as well as within walking distance of entertainment venues such as Draculas and Pink Flamingo.

The Dorsett Hotel is ideal for couples or a group of friends looking for a fun weekend on the Gold Coast.
