What is Dig IT?
Dig IT at Tamborine is a unique and interactive attraction that brings the excitement of operating real construction equipment to visitors of all ages.
Set against the backdrop of beautiful Tamborine Mountain, this adventure park offers a safe and fun environment where across a variety of zones, participants can step into the shoes of a construction worker and complete tasks operating 1.7 tonne excavators.
At its core, Dig IT is about turning childhood dreams into reality. Whether the kids have always been fascinated by construction sites or just looking for a day of unique hands-on fun, this attraction allows them to experience the thrill of digging, scooping, and maneuvering machinery under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Who Can Participate?
As stated above, there is no age limit for having a go at Dig IT, everyone can have a go.
- Kids aged 5 and up can take full control of the mini excavators under the guidance of professional instructors.
- Younger children can sit on the laps of an adult so they can still experience the thrill of operating the machinery.
What to expect?
Upon arrival, you’ll be provided with your safety gear including a high vis vest and hard hat. You’ll then be provided with a safety briefing to ensure everyone is equipped with the knowledge and protective gear they need to enjoy the experience safely.
Once geared up, it’s time to hop into the machinery and start your adventure. There are a range of different activities you can complete during your two hour session, including:
- The Dig Zone: On your 1.7 tonne excavator you can get scoop up dirt and manoeuvre it wherever you please.
- The Claw Zone: Using the huge claw attached to your excavator, move and stack tyres
- The Croc Zone: Using precision, use the diggers to hook real life crocs! The shoe kind that is!
- The RC Zone: When you’ve had enough of operating the heavy machinery, take on one of the state of the art remote controls and operate dump trucks, rear loads and dozers.
- The Demolition Zone: With a wrecking ball attached to your excavator, carefully knock down the tower bit by bit.
Over the course of your session you can have a turn in as many different zones as you like and have as many turns in your favourite areas as you like.
In addition to the zones above, for the smaller kids there is also a sandpit and a play area – these can be accessed for all at any time throughout the session.

Facilities and Amenities
Dig IT is equipped with facilities to make your visit comfortable:
- Terrace Kiosk: Just a short walk from the Dig IT area, within Thunderbird Park is the Terrace Kiosk where you can buy drinks, snacks and lunch. Keep in mind you cannot bring your own drinks and food into Thunderbird Park.
- Rest Areas: There is limited shaded seating areas in the Dig IT area – so do keep this in mind and ensure you have a hat, water and sunscreen – it does get quite hot.
- Restrooms: Within the Dig IT area there is just one toilet, however just a short walk away you’ll find additional toilets at the Terrace Kiosk.
Location and How to Get There
Dig IT is located on Tamborine Mountain, approximately a 1-hour drive from Brisbane and 40 minutes from the Gold Coast.
Public transport options are limited, so driving is recommended.
Driving Directions:
- From Brisbane: Take the Pacific Motorway (M1) and follow signs to Tamborine Mountain.
- From the Gold Coast: Drive up the scenic Tamborine-Oxenford Road (Route 95) for breathtaking views along the way.
Parking is available on-site within the Thunderbird Park carpark.
Tips for Visitors
Here are our top tips for a great time at Dig IT:
- Dress Comfortably: Wear closed-toe shoes and casual clothing you don’t mind getting a little dusty.
- Book in Advance: Sessions can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays.
- Supervise Younger Kids: Although staff are always available, parents should stay close to younger children during activities.
- Bring water, hat and sunscreen: It can get very hot in the Dig IT so ensure you can well prepared.
- Make a Day of It: Pair your visit with a stop at nearby Tamborine attractions, such as the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk or local wineries.
Pricing and Booking Information
Dig IT is open for 10.30 am sessions on Wednesdays and on weekends and every day during school holidays there are four sessions each day, with the first session commencing at 8.30 am and the last session starting at 2.30pm.
Sessions are $59 per person who will be operating machinery. So there is no charge for observers or for adults who will have younger child sitting on their lap operating the machinery.
Numbers are capped for each session, so booking in advance is a must. Tickets can be purchased here.
