O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards Review

The Queensland Travel Guide acknowledges the local Wangerriburra mob, part of the wider Yugambeh language group, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards are situated.  We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continued spiritual and cultural connections to Country.  Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

Set at the base of Lamington National Park, O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards is the kind of place that’s easy to love—whether you’re stopping in for a quick wine tasting or spending a lazy afternoon by the creek.

Just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, this family-owned winery is a Scenic Rim favourite for locals, day trippers, and couples seeking a romantic escape alike.

With its historic homestead, sprawling lawns, resident alpacas and beautiful creekside setting, O’Reilly’s offers much more than just a cellar door—it’s the kind of spot you can settle into for hours.

Whether you’re popping in for a cheese platter and a glass of verdelho, planning a long lunch with friends, or treating someone special to a private picnic, O’Reilly’s is the kind of destination that feels equally relaxed and refined.

The Setting

Set along the edge of Canungra Creek in the heart of the Scenic Rim, O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards offers one of the most scenic winery settings in South East Queensland.

The property has sweeping green lawns, rows of established grapevines, and a stately 160-year-old Queenslander homestead at its heart. Shaded by towering trees, the setting is peaceful, picturesque, and perfect for long lunches or lazy afternoons.

A standout feature is the vineyard’s direct access to the creek, which winds gently along the back of the property. Visitors can spread out along the banks for picnics, wine in hand and feet in the water. Kids love wading through the shallows and skipping stones, while couples curl up on picnic rugs with a bottle and a grazing box between them.

While you can’t bring your own food or drinks, you’re welcome to bring whatever you need to get comfortable—picnic rugs, chairs, folding tables, even umbrellas.

There’s plenty of space to explore or unwind without feeling crowded, with multiple seating zones spread across the grounds—under shady trees, creekside, or closer to the homestead.

Add in the ever-curious resident alpacas and live music on most weekends, and you’ve got an idyllic, all-ages destination that feels both relaxed and memorable.

The Story Behind the Winery

The O’Reilly name is best known for its iconic guesthouse in the Lamington National Park. In 1999, the family extended their legacy with the purchase of a historic homestead in the Canungra Valley.

The 160-year-old homestead, now housing the cellar door and kitchen, was originally built in 1858 and is one of the oldest buildings in the Scenic Rim. During Canungra’s early timber milling days, the house was a prominent local residence. Today, its restored facade and vintage charm help anchor the vineyard’s rustic appeal.

While the winemaking is taken seriously, the O’Reilly approach to the vineyard is all about accessibility and warmth. This isn’t a place that caters only to seasoned wine drinkers—it’s a place where families gather for picnics, couples celebrate anniversaries by the creek, and day-trippers stumble upon an unexpectedly lovely afternoon.

It’s this blend of local history, laid-back hospitality, and genuine connection to the land that gives the winery its distinct character—and keeps people coming back time and time again.

The Wine Tasting Experience

Tastings are hosted in the charming 160-year-old homestead, with polished timber floors, high ceilings, and wide verandahs. You can choose to sample your wines at the bar with a guided tasting or take a flight outside to enjoy at your own pace beneath the trees or by the creek.

The tasting menu features a mix of estate-grown and locally sourced wines, with a focus on easy-drinking styles that suit Queensland’s warm climate.

You’ll typically find a refreshing Verdelho, a crisp Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, soft reds like Shiraz and Merlot, and a Rosé that’s become a local favourite for sunny afternoons. Sparkling options and sweeter dessert wines are also often available.

You can choose to taste by the glass or order a full flight, accompanied by tasting notes. Wine paddles are $25 and feature 5 wines of your choice.

Food Options

The menu focuses on regional produce and generous, share-style options that are perfect for grazing in the sunshine. Whether you’re settling in for a full picnic by the creek or enjoying a casual lunch on the verandah, there’s something for every kind of appetite.

Picnic Baskets

One of the vineyard’s most popular offerings is the Picnic by the Creek experience. You can pre-book a beautifully prepared picnic basket packed with local cheeses, cured meats, seasonal fruits, house-made relishes, fresh bread, crackers, and something sweet to finish.

You can choose to add a range of extras to your picnic basket, including a wine paddle, a bottle of wine, wine glasses or a picnic blanket.

Picnic baskets start at $90 and must be ordered at least 24 hours in advance. Click here to order.

Homestead Kitchen Menu

If you’d rather order from the menu, there’s a selection of ploughman-style platters and grazing boards available from the kitchen, which can be enjoyed on the homestead’s wide verandah or lawn.

You’ll also find a small menu of light meals and seasonal specials, often featuring locally sourced ingredients from around the Scenic Rim as well as freshly made pizzas.

There is a kids’ menu and a cake cabinet as well.

Long Tables

If rolling out a picnic blanket is not your kind of thing, then you’ll be pleased to know that you can pre book tables and chairs to be set up for you upon arrival.

Tables are set up by the creek, and you’ll have full use of them from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Long tables start at $50 and must be ordered 24 hours in advance.
